“You won’t die!” the serpent replied to the woman. “God knows that your eyes will be opened as soon as you eat it, and you will be like God, knowing both good and evil.” Genesis 3:4-5
This is what the serpent said to Eve in the Garden of Eden…you won’t die! We know the rest of the story. Eve listened to the serpent and disobeyed God. She was deceived. Unfortunately this is what happens to us. We are deceived and sometimes we outright disobey God and his word.
I want to make it personal though. Yeah we can sit here and read about how Eve didn’t listen and was cursed because of it. We can even read this passage of scripture and just gloss over the words because we’ve read it so much (if you’ve been in church any number of years). The thing is that it speaks to us…right to the core of who we are. We can’t just gloss over it.
My question is what are you being deceived of? What sin are you hiding that you don’t want anyone to find out about? What is that one thing that if your best friend found out, you feel like your life would be over?
The good news is that Jesus can wash away those sins that you’re trying to cover up. We can’t let go of these things on our own. Jesus has to be the one to rescue you from them. I challenge you to nail them to the cross. Let Jesus restore you.
